At present fully registered teachers will need to demonstrate 'Maintained Practice' (50days teaching and 100hrs PD as well as a National Criminal History Records Check(NCHRC)). In addition to the handout mentioned above Dawn summised other possibilities for PD that fully registered teachers will need in order to renew their 5year registration. These included;
- Pdi Conferences http://pdi.vic.edu.au/
- School curriculum days/meetings
- 'Returning to Teaching' program www.education.vic.gov.au/proflearning/teacher/refresh.htm , who run a 7 day program
- professional conversations
- unions, subject associations http://www.tin.org.au/
- online courses http://www.education.vic.gov.au/
- Professional Research - ie Education Research digest http://educationresearchdigest.com/
The Institute has changed it's policy on renewal and after this 5 year renewal process has been undertaken the Institute will ask that teachers undertake this process annually instead and 'Maintained Practice' will become 10days teaching and 20hours PD activities within the year. If you are not able to satisfy these requirements the Institute will grant you 1year extension in which to achieve the set requirements.
Dawn was quite happy to take individual enquires at the Institute and this Network will also do their utmost to help if any of its members have questions!
