Venue: Community Room, Somerville Rise Primary School, Black Camps Road, Somerville, Melways p148 D1
Subjects: Duty of Care; Occupational Health and Safety; General discussion/networking
I hope you had a good Easter holiday break and are finding the work you want this term. It seems it as a slow start to Term 2 for lots of us, so let's hope it picks up soon!
We at the CRT Network have been trying very hard to organise PD sessions on some of the topics you have requested, with limited success. Certain topics, such as VELS, appear to be difficult to find a presenter for, due to the new National Curriculum that is in the pipeline. We will, however, keep on trying and will of course let you know when more dates are confirmed.
This term, we will be running a PD on Monday 20th June. It will be presented by James Rankin, who is the CRT representative for the AEU (Australian Education Union). He will be presenting on 'Occupational Health and Safety' and 'Duty of Care', which are important topics for teachers to be aware of. He will also be briefly updating us on the AEU's campaign to improve pay and conditions for CRTs; I have included below further information on this campaign. You need to be aware that the AEU are providing this PD free of charge to us, but you will not be under any obligation to join the union (although it will be possible to do so on the night if you would like to).
James' session will start at 4.15pm and run for an hour, plus a general question session afterwards; followed by professional networking between us, finishing by 6.15pm at the latest. There will be an attendance certificate provided by us at the end of the session, which can be used towards your VIT PD required hours.
If you would like to attend this PD session, please reply by Monday 13th June, to this email address. If you are on our mailing list, but no longer wish to receive emails from the Somerville CRT Network, please reply with a request to unsubscribe you.

Upcoming Events
Hi All,
We trust your Easter was exceptionally restful and you are now ready for the onslaught of term 2 - the germ fest begins! Ha!
Your Network co-ordinators met over the school holidays and have given ourselves a lot of research work to do in preparation for upcoming presenters. Will keep you posted on this front.
Note additions to upcoming events bottom right hand corner of this blog and;
Zart Art is conducting a hands on workshop in Berwick on 25th July. It will be at Beaconhills College Berwick and commence at 4.20pm – 7.00pm at the cost of $75 which includes all materials and a full colour Book Week Book worth $43.95. At this workshop 4 or 5 activities focussing on the Early Childhood and Picture Book shortlisted books. If interested please ring Mari on 9890 1867.
There are a number of workshops at Zart in Box Hill, after school and full day workshops if you would prefer and these can be viewed on the following link.

Hi All!
...and thank you for your patience in awaiting my updating of the blog and in sending out that promised email regarding Book Related Literacy Activities to those who attended the most recent PD session (my youngest is not adjusting well to daylight savings and is keeping us up for hours!)
Well - thank you so much Sue for a great PD last week, though it would not have been possible without those great ideas shared by you all. The email will soon be sent which identifies the books, authors and ideas for CRTs in the classroom. It is my priority to get this out before school goes back I promise!
I wish to take this opportunity to also thank Andrew Felsinger, Principal of Somerville Rise Primary, for his great presentation on interviewing for teaching positions and expectations of CRTs in schools. I think we all took home lots of good quality, and well thought out, advice.
Stacey, member of the network, has sent through some much appreciated information related to other quality PD opportunities - twilight seminars and the video footage of Glen Pearsall. She says "he was an amazing presenter and his new book "And Gladly Teach" would be of great interest to CRT's as he directed some of his talk to CRT's and their important role in the class room. He was very practical and hands on and I think would be a wonderful asset to your PD program if he is available. He deals with class room management and class room engagement".

Hi All!
Looking forward to our 2nd Event of the Year - 'Book Related Literacy Activities' and 'Expectations of CRT's in schools/interviews' by Andrew Felsinger- TOMORROW at 4:15pm! Our members list has hit over 100 now - WOW! (pat on the back)- this means that RSVP's are essential now as we will need to cap our events for practicalilty & logistical reasons. It also means that if, for one reason or another, you need to cancel your position in any upcoming events you will need to let us know ASAP so we can share your position with another on our wait list. Much appreciated.
Please note - There have been amendments to the recommended websites below - the DEECD now has (based on recommendations from our CRT Networks!) a specialised webpage for CRT's - http://www.education.vic.gov.au/schoolprofessionals/teachers/default.htm and http://www.education.vic.gov.au/schoolprofessionals/teachers/crt.htm
